WVSA thematic panels at WAPOR-2017 conference in Lisbon
Recent technological developments have made it extremely easy for individuals to share their opinions, and persuade and mobilize others. Indeed, it is difficult to avoid mention or use of social media. Interestingly, while more and more citizens have access to means to express their opinions, more and more of them feel unrepresented and dissatisfied with political decision-making processes. They question their voice in the enactment of public policy, and they express disappointment and anger with the lack of responsiveness of political elites to public opinion. These deep feelings of discontent usually lead to bipolarization and surges of populism. These and other issues WAPOR members will address in the course of its annual conference on July, 15-17, 2017 in Lisbon, Portugal.
The World Values Survey Association is organizing two thematic panels at the WAPOR conference, and invites all interested scholars to join exciting discussions on population values, norms and beliefs and their role for social and political development of contemporary societies.
The two panels will address such issues as political culture, immigration and acculturation, social inclusion, civic engagement, threat of terrorism, political participation and protest behaviour, rise of populism and decline of democracy which will be presented and discussed by the international team of scholars representing 9 world countries from 5 continents.
