Democracy Today: Dynamics and Trends of the Popular Support for Democracy - Call for papers for the WVS thematic panel at WAPOR-2019
The World Values Survey Association invites paper proposals for the WVS thematic panel at the forthcoming 72nd annual WAPOR conference -which will take place in conjunction with the AAPOR conference- on May 16-21, 2019 in Toronto, Canada.
Following the conference main theme, the panel focuses on a variety of topics dealing with the issues of support for democracy and preference for the alternative forms of governance; origins and factors of the aspirations for democracy; confidence in political institutions and political participation and their contribution to the democratic support; validity and reliability of the existing measures of democratic support; population surveys vs expert evaluations of the quality of democracy and the type of regime; over-time trends in the popular support for democracy and their interpretations.
Submissions into this panel are expected to employ survey data from the World Values Survey data-sets 1981-2018 (alongside with the survey data from other comparative international research programs). Submissions are welcomed from scholars from any world region and at any stage of your academic career. Panel will be chaired by the WVSA President Professor Dr Christian Haerpfer.
