Last week WVSA President Christian Haerpfer and Head of WVSA Secretariat Kseniya Kizilova served as invited key-note speakers at the Academic Conference on "System Transformation in CentralAsia and in Comparative Perspective".

The event took place on September 20-21 in Kyrgyzstan at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. The conference was organized with the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. This conference was initiated by Prof. Dr. Anja Mihr, DAAD Visiting Professor at the OSCE Academy, in order to enhance the exchange between local and international scholars, policymakers and representatives from civil society and to stimulate their discussion about the challenges of the gradual changes currently taking place in Central Asia vis-a-vis the democratic and human rights norms and standards.

Other invited speakers included Prof. Wolfgang Merkel from the German Research Center for Social Science and Humboldt University in Berlin; Prof. Manfred Nowak, Secretary General of the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, Italy; Prof. Mario Sznajder from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and other scholars.

WVSA delegation spoke of the findings obtained via the previous rounds of the WVS research programs conducted in Kazakhstan (2011 & 2018), Kyrgyzstan (2004 & 2011) and Uzbekistan (2011).

The currently ongoing WVS-7 survey round has already been completed in Kazakhstan in 2018. The new survey is set up to commence in Fall 2019 in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and -for the first time- in Tajikistan. All new data will be available in free access at the WVSA web-site in July 2020.
