International Workshop “Security in the Mediterranean”
An International Workshop entitled “Security in the Mediterranean” took place on November, 21-25, 2017 at the University of Almeria and was organized by the WVSA Regional Hub for Mediterranean (Southern Europe and Northern Africa). The program of the event features presentations by Seminar Directors Juan Diez-Nicolas and Pilar Rodriguez, WVSA President Christian Haerpfer as well as WVS PIs Munqith Dagher (WVS-Iraq), Fares Braizat (WVS-Jordan), Mhammed Abderebbi (WVS-Morocco), Sokratis Koniordos (WVS-Greece).

WVSA network includes over 300 research institutions, organizations, universities and teams across the globe. In wave 7 we continue expanding our coverage and invite scholars and teams interested in cooperation with the WVSA to consider joining the program and undertaking the WVS7 survey in your country.

New V-Drm working paper by WVSA Vice-President Chris Welzel!
V-Dem Users' Working Paper #11: "A Tale of Culture-Bound Regime Evolution: The Centennial Democratic Trend and Its Recent Reversal" by WVSA Vice-President Christian Welzel. Using a new measure of “comprehensive democracy” derived from V-Dem, this analysis traces the global democratic trend over the last 116 years, from 1900 till 2016, looking in particular at the centennial trend’s cultural zoning.

Festive Launch of the WVS-7 in Brazil!
On October, the 24th, the Launch Conference of the WVS-7 survey in Brazil with the simultaneous participation of WVS' members of different teams around the world took place. Scholars had an opportunity to discuss academic research with the use of WVS data in the first half of the Conference and, the second half was dedicated to methodological discussions and challenges of the development of WVS' survey. The Conference was broadcasted live.

The German Science Foundation (DFG) has granted Christian Welzel, the Vice-President of the World Values Survey Association, the Reinhard Koselleck Award of the amount of one million Euro to conduct research for the project 'The Cool Water Effect: Why Human Civilization turned towards Emancipation in Cold-Wet Regions.'

WVSA Secretariat is compiling a full list of publications (articles, conference papers, book chapters, books, online posts etc.) which are based on or employ WVS data. WVSA President Christian W Haerpfer Delivers the IPSA Lecture at the IAPSS World Congress
On April 5th 2017, President of the WVSA and Member of the Executive Committee of International Political Science Association Professor Christian W Haerpfer gave a lecture on “The Meaning of Political Participation: Methodology and Measurement” to a large crowd of students coming from 33 different countries. He discussed various topics of which the definition of the cycle of political participation and how to measure elections (quantitative and qualitative measurements).
