Planning WVS wave 7 (2017-2018)

WVS WAVE 7

WVS has finished its 6th survey wave in 2014. This wave covers 60 countries, and is the most successful wave in the history of WVS. In 2015 WVSA started planning the 7th wave to be conducted worldwide in 2016-2018. Subsequent waves are planned every five years.

1) QUESTIONNAIRE

The EC continues working on the WVS-7 questionnaire. We express our gratitude to all colleagues who provided their contribution for the new questionnaire draft. The EC is currently considering all the submitted propositions of new topics and questions and will come up with a final decision regarding the WVS-7 survey questionnaire in July, 2016.

So far we expect that the new questionnaire will include the following topics: trust to social and political institutions, support for democracy and alternative, political regimes, tolerance to foreigners and ethnic minorities, support for gender equality, the role of religion and changing levels of religiosity, the impact of globalization, attitudes toward the environment, work, family, politics, national identity, culture, diversity, local and national security in contemporary world, subjective well-being and happiness, social capital, corruption, elections and electoral integrity, attitudes towards migration and influence of migration on national development, interest in politics, social media, political participation and unconventional political activity, development of science and technology, social, ethical and moral norms.

The 7th wave survey aims to contribute towards monitoring the set of Sustainable Development Goals and the targets defined by the UN post-2015 agenda. In particular, the survey can expand the information which is gathered to monitor development priorities, thereby supplementing data sources from official statistics and from censuses.

2) TIME SCHEDULE

Year 2016 will be devoted to preparations of the WVS wave 7. In addition to development of survey questionnaire, this will include preparation and submission of survey funding applications. We encourage all the Principal Investigators, survey teams, funding organizations and foundations who are interested in cooperation with WVSA to begin fund-raising activities.

The following dates have been approved as the period of WVS-7 survey fieldwork implementation:

January, 2017 – Start of the WVS 7 fieldwork

December, 2018 – End of the survey fieldwork

All Principal Investigators interested in cooperation with the WVSA in the 7th wave are kindly asked to complete the following online survey in order to inform the EC regarding your plans and possible problems with survey implementation.

3) METHODOLOGICAL RULES

Scientific Advisory Committee of the WVSA is working on development of the new edition of the Rules and Methodological Requirements for Principal Investigators which will be available in mid-July, 2016 and will contain an updated version of requirements towards sampling procedures, sample size, time of survey implementation, questionnaire localization, data submission to the WVS and etc.

WVSA continues extending its network by including new Institutional Members and developing the network of Regional Hubs. If your organization is interested in becoming a Research Team or an Institutional Member of the WVSA, please, send your inquiry to the Secretary in order to get information regarding terms and conditions of institutional membership.

5) WVSA MEETING 2016
