WVS presentation on trust in Brasilia
From November 23 to 25, TCU hosted the “International Seminar – Governance and Development: Innovative Practices and the Role of Supreme Audit Institutions”. During the event, the preliminary findings and recommendations of the third phase of the international study carried out in partnership with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) have been launched. The meeting took place in the TCU headquarters in Brasília, in the Ministro Pereira Lira Auditorium and had the participation of TCU and OECD representatives, as well as important players of the Executive and Legislative branches of the Brazilian government, of academia and of supreme audit institutions (SAIs) who were a part of the study.
The international study “Strengthening public governance: good practices and the role of SAIs” is an initiative that has the participation of, Brazil, Canada, Chile, France, Holland, India, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, South Korea, United States of America, and the European Community. The purpose is to identify and disseminate good practices in public governance. In the seminar, OECD and TCU held an opening panel on the importance of trust for the development of the country where WVSA President Professor Christian Haerpfer has been invited as the guest speaker. His presentation was devoted to analysis of dynamics of trust in different world countries and regions, basing on the data and findings from the WVS as well as analysis of the links and correlations between trust and social capital on the one hand and economic prosperity on the other.
There were also be four technical panels about innovative practices distributed in the following topics:
- Analytics: carrying out predictive analysis in the public sector;
- Using design to promote eectivity in public policies;
- National Indicators: identifying the gaps in the country;
- Evaluating the Sustainable Development Goals.
